Saint Nicolas Stairs (Escalier de l'Art)
Gemmayzeh / Rmeil, Beirut·4.5(500)·Free
About
Often called the longest staircase in the Middle East, these 125 stone steps climb from Rue Gouraud in Gemmayzeh up to Rue Sursock, past cafes, greenery and heritage houses. Since 1973 the steps have hosted open-air art exhibitions that earned them the nickname 'Escalier de l'Art'. They sit just steps from the Sursock Museum.
