About

Inaugurated in 2008 and funded by former PM Rafik Hariri, this vast Ottoman-revival mosque holds up to 6,400 worshippers beneath four 72-metre minarets and five sky-blue domes. It anchors Martyrs' Square beside the Maronite Cathedral of Saint George, a striking image of Beirut's coexistence. Visitors of all faiths may enter outside prayer times; modest dress is required and robes are provided.
