About
Designed by Youssef Aftimus in 1924, this ochre villa at the Sodeco crossing stood on the civil-war demarcation line and became a notorious snipers' nest. Saved from demolition by activist Mona Hallak, it was restored and opened in 2016 as Beit Beirut, a museum and urban cultural centre. Its shell-pocked façades and preserved interiors tell the story of Beirut's war and reconstruction.
