About
Crowning a hill above Maghdouche and the southern coast, Saidet el Mantara - Our Lady of Awaiting - is a Melkite Greek Catholic shrine built around a cave where tradition says Mary rested awaiting Jesus. A tall tower topped by a statue of the Virgin and Child overlooks a cathedral, the sacred grotto and panoramic views toward Sidon. Rediscovered in 1721, it is one of the south's most visited pilgrimage sites, busiest each 8 September.
