About

In the pine-clad hills of the Aley district, Abey (Aabey) was for centuries a stronghold of the Tanukhi-Buhturi emirs and a spiritual centre of the Druze faith. Its lanes still hold the Fountain of the Emirs, the 17th–18th-century residence of Emir Qa'an at-Tannoukhi, old sheikhly houses, and the restored maqam of the revered theologian Sayyid Abdallah at-Tannukhi (d. 1479). Quiet and steeped in history, it rewards a slow wander through one of Mount Lebanon's oldest heritage villages.
