About

Perched at about 1,500 m on the slopes of Mount Sannine, Qalaat Faqra is the most extensive Roman archaeological site in Mount Lebanon. Its ruins include the cubic Claudius Tower (dedicated to Emperor Claudius in 43-44 CE), a great sanctuary to Adonis with a Corinthian temple, altars, tombs and a 5th-century Byzantine basilica. The open, free-to-enter site lies just above the Faqra resort area.
