About
Founded around 705-715 under Caliph al-Walid I, Anjar is Lebanon's only major Umayyad-era archaeological site, laid out on a Roman grid with a grand palace, mosque, baths and colonnaded avenues. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers a calm, uncrowded walk among honey-coloured arcades near the Bekaa's spring-fed waters. Open daily, roughly 8:00 to 17:30.
