Church of St John-Marc
Old Town, near the Old Souk, Byblos / Jbeil·4.5(140)·Free
About
Begun by the Crusaders in 1115 and dedicated to Saint John-Marc, patron of Byblos, this Romanesque cathedral blends Frankish and local Levantine stonework. Damaged repeatedly by earthquakes and conflict and restored by the Maronite Order in the 1770s, it remains an active church with a serene open-air baptistery beside it. It sits a short walk from the souk and the castle.
