Moukhtara — Joumblatt Palace
About
The de facto capital of the Chouf, Moukhtara is dominated by the 19th-century stone palace of the Druze Jumblatt family, blending Oriental and Italian styles around courtyards crossed by a spring and a waterfall that feeds an ornamental pool. Public reception rooms hold a collection of Oriental crafts, mosaics and the Kamal Joumblatt Museum, opening to visitors on select days. In the valley below, the Barouk and Wadi el-Maa rivers meet at the scenic 'Birket el-Arous', the bride's pond.
