Diman - Our Lady & the Summer Patriarchate

Diman (Dimane), Bsharri District, Coast & Mountains·4.6(200)·Free

About

Perched at about 1,400 m on the rim of the Holy Valley, Diman has been the summer seat of the Maronite Patriarch since Patriarch Elias Howayek built the residence in 1899, echoing the old patriarchal home at nearby Qannoubine. Its church of Our Lady is famous for luminous murals by the Lebanese painter Saliba Douaihy. Terraced gardens and belvederes look straight across the gorge to Bcharre and the cedar-clad heights.
