High above Fnaidek in the far north, the Qammoua plateau spreads at around 1,450 m into one of Lebanon's largest and least-visited forests, mixing cedars, junipers, Cilician firs and a famous grove of hairy oaks. Shepherds' plains, springs and truck tracks give way to hiking routes toward the cedar stands and the neighbouring Ozor forest of Akkar. It is raw, open country best explored with a local guide and a full day in hand, from late spring through autumn.
