About
At the head of the Adonis Valley, the Afqa grotto is a vast limestone cave set in a 200 m cliff, from which the Nahr Ibrahim (Adonis River) pours out as a waterfall, the river's very source, fed by melting mountain snow. In spring the water can run reddish, the legendary 'blood of Adonis'. The boulder-strewn approach is slippery and the water icy; it is most spectacular from April to June.
