Temple of Astarte at Afqa

About
Just below the Afqa grotto lie the ruins of the ancient temple of Aphrodite/Astarte (Venus), a pagan sanctuary bound to the myth of Adonis and Astarte and to the river's sacred source. Massive hewn blocks and a syenite granite column still stand; the shrine was destroyed under Constantine and never fully rebuilt. It is a quiet, atmospheric stop that pairs naturally with the waterfall.
