About
At the heart of Mtein, one of Lebanon's oldest villages, spreads a roughly 5,000-square-metre stone square, the midane, ringed by the palaces the Abillama emirs built from the 17th century onward. Their blend of Arab and Baroque architecture echoes Deir el Qamar, and the Palace of Emir Moussa still shows off its ornate oriental detailing. Far quieter than the coast, the square is a living open-air record of Mount Lebanon's princely past.
