About
Built around 1600 as a barracks and later given over to soap-makers, this arcaded Ottoman khan is the fragrant heart of Tripoli's centuries-old soap trade. Around its fountain courtyard, workshops still stack pyramids of hand-cut olive-oil soaps scented with laurel, honey and jasmine. It is a lovely, low-key stop for gifts and a whiff of living heritage.
