In the village of Bechouat, about 3 km north of Deir el Ahmar, this Marian sanctuary grew around a Byzantine icon found in a cave in 1741 and a blue-and-white statue of the Virgin long associated with reported miracles. An old church and a newer sanctuary draw pilgrims of several faiths, especially in the summer feast season. The quiet, high-altitude setting with valley views makes the visit as scenic as it is spiritual.
