Our Lady of Ilige Monastery
Mayfouq, Jbeil, Byblos / Jbeil·4.7(240)·Free
About
Built in 1121 on the ruins of an ancient temple, Our Lady of Ilige above Mayfouq was the seat of the Maronite Patriarchate from 1120 to 1440 and home to eighteen patriarchs. The weathered stone church, carved crosses and hillside setting make it one of Jbeil's most evocative and least-crowded heritage sites. It remains a quiet pilgrimage spot deep in Maronite history.
