Tyre's Christian quarter feels like a Greek island transplanted to Lebanon: narrow cobblestone lanes, pastel houses with blue shutters and bougainvillea spilling over balconies. It opens onto a working fishing harbour where you can watch boat-makers and fishermen mending their nets, then catch the sunset by the old lighthouse and the Roman columns scattered along the shore. Wander slowly and stop for coffee at a harbour cafe.
