Sidon Sea Castle (Qalaat al-Bahr)
Old City waterfront, Saida (Sidon), Coast & Mountains·4.4(2,100)·$$$$
About
Built by the Crusaders around 1228 on a small island once home to a temple of Melqart, Sidon's Sea Castle guards the harbour of the old city and is linked to shore by an 80 m Mamluk causeway. Two towers and a rooftop Ottoman-era mosque survive, with sweeping views over the fishing port, souks and Mediterranean. It sits a short walk from Saida's atmospheric old souks, Soap Museum and Khan el-Franj.
